Most people who get tetanus haven’t been vaccinated or completed their vaccination course; it is caught through bacteria entering through a skin injury. For example animals bites or scratches, injecting drugs or unhygienic practices in the hospital.

Tetanus is found all over the world and can cause problems with breathing and the heart.

  • Stiff jaw
  • Painful muscle spasms affecting swallowing and breathing
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Sweating
  • Rapid heartbeat

Prevention

Along with having the vaccination, ensure you clean any wound thoroughly and also seek medical advice if the wound is deep or has dirt inside.
